Body-Safe Sex Toy Materials
The material decides how a toy feels, how long it lasts and how well it cleans. Here is what each common one means for you.
Silicone
Non-porous, smooth and flexible. It cleans well and lasts. Do not use silicone lube on silicone toys.
Glass
Non-porous, rigid and smooth. It can be warmed or cooled in water. Do not use it if it is chipped or cracked.
Stainless steel
Heavy, hygienic and good with any lube. It holds temperature, so warm it in water before use.
ABS plastic
A hard plastic common in bullets and vibrator housings. It is non-porous.
TPE and TPR
Soft and stretchy, but porous. It can hold bacteria even after washing, so use a condom over it and replace it when it ages.
How to check
The material is listed on each product page. If a toy has no material listed, ask before you buy.
